dream of the red belltower

one of the best, and worst aspects, about shooting film is the delayed gratification. i took these ages ago and just got them back... but aren't they dreamy? opening up an envelope of newly-developed prints is magical, like climbing into a little time machine, and unexpectedly finding candy in it, too.

a love letter

harvard is a living testament to proust's words that "the only paradise is paradise lost." somehow, four feverish years have dissipated, leaving in its trace exquisite heartbreak. as i peruse images of this campus i feel unbearably homesick... its beauty draws forth such yearning that becomes only more painful as time elapses and distance grows.

it kills me to think of how long it will be before i am here again. it kills me even more to think that i will never really be able to return.

cute!

not sure if i can pull these off... but goodness they are cute. thank you!

another time and place

i've been quite remiss in taking photographs lately, which is so unlike me. but, i think i have some pretty valid excuses (like dancing.. and relaxing.. all the time). anyways, here are some photos from zermatt that i never posted before. just looking at these makes me so nostalgic. can i please go back to this place where street vendors sell moët and children get pulled along in sleighs rather than strollers?

dunster library

whenever i try to study here i always just end up looking around and marveling at the beauty. i mean, can you blame me?

omg.

on wednesday, may 9, 2012, at 5:10 p.m., i finished my last final examination ever. my final final. well, for the foreseeable future, anyway.

we celebrated with dim sum, naturally, at winsor cafe, followed by the best pinkberry flavor ever. then, i traipsed around in the rain and took photographs of this beautiful campus at night, before witnessing friends competing to eat bowls of jalapenos in the dining hall. anticlimatic, a bit, but i wouldn't have it any other way.

15 east

chardonnay and amaebi pair so beautifully, creamy, buttery, lush. rainbow hued sea lettuces still taste of ocean. tofu dissolves smoothy into ginger soy, leaving behind only a memory of taste. nights like these make me feel nostalgic even before they're over.

the new york city macaron expedition

do you remember this ridiculous sugar fest i had in boston, which ended with the conclusion that boston has no good macarons to offer?

well, i did something similar for new york, except it ended much more happily! over the course of a weekend, i consumed about 283476 macarons, and returned to laduree no fewer than 3 times. i'm not ashamed.

actually, the shopgirl at laduree told me, "I can tell you've been here before because you picked all the best flavors." best compliment ever.

(those flavors were raspberry, cassis, coconut, lemon, salted butter caramel, and pistachio.)

notes:
  • everything from maison du chocolate has chocolate ganache in it. chocolate is nice, butdare i say it?chocolate has a time and place. it's not all the time and not every place, especially not in a passionfruit macaron.
  • the earl grey from michel cluizel is subtle and lovely.
  • bouchon's macarons are gargantuan. sprüngli's luxemburgerli : bouchon's macaron :: european portions : american portions.
  • the cassis violette from laduree is the best flavor ever. EVER.
  • the texture of macaron cafe's macarons were technically good, but the flavors weren't as concentrated as the ones from laduree. however, they do ship nationwide, so it's good for a emergency fix when you have no other options nearby. (actually, i have a box chilling in my freezer right now.)
  • i want more macarons....
